Farewell Floridita, We Hardly Knew Ye!

News today that glamorous hotel restaurant The Ellington on York Place has been closed by administrators, costing several workers their jobs.

Also closing is Floridita, the pub/club on the corner of Briggate and The Calls which opened less than six month ago to some fanfare. Tiberius heard   a number of good reviews of the place and is a little gutted he missed out on experiencing Leeds’ first (and probably last) “dedicated Cuban music bar”.

Meanwhile, Italian eaterie @larocca has closed its doors eight months after opening them. Based as it was at the Clarence Dock Ghost Town, this should hardly come as a surprise. Notable though is the YEP’s inclusion that “Mumtaz Indian restaurant was expected to open there last August but is now scheduled to open this month”; Tiberius says: “Don’t count your Chipatis!”
