More Dark Times For Leeds

Work stopped on Leeds’ Dark Arches project:

WORK has stopped on an innovative multi-million-pound scheme to improve one of the busiest gateways into Leeds city centre.

A £4.5m project to brighten up the city’s famous Dark Arches by installing new lighting and artwork at the Neville Street bridge got under way last year.

It was expected the scheme would be finished by now but work has come to a temporary halt after the lead contractor, Wrekin Construction, went into administration.

“No room for cynical jibes here” says Tiberius  “the Dark Arches have for far too long been a urine-soaked, pigeon crap-infested, disgrace to Leeds. The shelving of this project, though predictable, is highly regrettable.”
