Fifty-Five Thousand Good Reasons….

Another addition to the growing list of “Reasons Why The Leeds-Bradford Airport Expansion Is a Bad Idea” is that airport expansion ‘could cost over 55,000 jobs’:

ENVIRONMENT campaigners say expansion of three Yorkshire airports will cost the region’s economy £2bn in lost tourism revenue and 55,000 jobs in the industry.
Friends of the Earth say increased traffic from the airports will mean money will be spent by UK residents overseas instead of in the region, and could prevent the creation of over 55,000 new tourism jobs in Yorkshire.

A good summary of the multitude of other reasons to resist this madness was offered in the recent Yorkshire Evening Pest, you can read it here.

If you have not already done so, you may wish you send your objections to Leeds City Council. The No LBA Expansion group have created a template and contacts here (but hurry, the hearing is scheduled for this Thursday 16 April).
